Are you a veteran of military service during
the Vietnam era? If so, the Safari
Club International
Veterans Committee wants to hear
from you.
"Vietnam veterans came home to indifference
or worse," said Stan Skinner,
staff
coordinator for the SCI Veterans
Committee.
"Veterans of World War II
and Korea
came home to parades and cheering
crowds,
but despite their service and
their valor,
Vietnam veterans were shortchanged."
Now, SCI plans to change that. During the
2008 SCI Convention in Reno,
Nevada USA,
SCI will present its Vietnam
veterans the
SCI Medal of Valor in recognition
of the
sacrifices they made in defense
of freedom.
To do that the SCI Veterans Committee needs
to identify all SCI members who
served between
1959 and 1975. Veterans who did
not actually
serve in Vietnam are also eligible
to receive
this honor. "All active
duty military
personnel were subject to call-up
for Vietnam
duty," Skinner said. "All
of those
who wore their country's uniform
knew this,
and they all were prepared to
go. That makes
all of them..heroes."
Veterans who wish to receive this honor may
